How do you change a bath faucet?

My grandma's that faucet has been stuck and I might try to fix it! The piece that you pull up for shower and push down for bath is stuck up for the shower position. So now if she wants to take a bath she has to let the bath fill up from the shower head and that takes forever! How can I fix it or just change the faucet all together? How do you change a bath faucet?
get A NEW ONEHow do you change a bath faucet?
It depends on where the diverter valve (the part you pull up to turn on the shower)is? If it is on the faucet its self than you can simply unscrew the whole faucet piece and replace it with a new one, very simple. All you need is adjustable channel locks and some teflon tape.Take the old one with you to a hardware store and compare it with others or have someone help you, they have deep and shallow FIP inserts. When installing it if you can, wrap the teflon tape around the male fitting and screw the new faucet on, and before you use pliers to tighten down, wrap the faucet with a towel to prevent scratching the finnish.GL
u should just buy a new faucet with the pull up knob....no need to buy a whole new shower kit, just the faucet....faucets are install 2 ways, either screwed onto a 3/4 inch pipe in which u just have to unscrew it to remove it...(use plumbers tape over the threads when install new faucet) or the faucet is pushed onto a 1/2 pipe and held in place with a set screw underneath the faucet....if so then lossen the screw and pull off
its an easy fix but it can be a hard job the faucet where the water come out is just screwed on with a fitting but if its been there for several years it might be corroded on and probably stuck and when you try to unscrew it it will break and then you have a bigger job you may just want to hire this done because they will have the tools to do this
The faucet with the 'shower' appendage will simply UNSCREW in a COUNTERCLOCKWISE direction. GO to Lowes or Home Depot and buy a new one and screw it back on. DONE.

You could also remove the old faucet, and soak it in a bucket of vinegar for a day or so and that might free up the calcium that is causing the handle to be stuck.
the diverter spout needs to be changed out. self explanditory the fittimgs are either 1/2'; or 3/4';, with 1/2'; plastic insert. your 3/4'; fitting might need to be changed out, usally they are 5'; long. you need channel lock pliers, water teflon tape. undo the spout, undo the fitting. replace w/ new fitting(sound like it's old and to be replaced. replace new spout. make sure they are on tight.
NO IDEA

TRY HITTING IT

THAT WORKS SOMETIMES

(Prefrably with a sledge hammer :-)
Go to Borders and buy a book........';Home Repairs for dummies'; or something like that. They are great books. Good luck or just call a plumber.
